An Item Analysis of the English Summative Test in the first semester for the tenth Grade Students of SMAN 1 Tarumajaya Bekasi in the 2017/2018 Academic Year

The objective of this study is to find out whether the English summative test items for the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Tarumajaya has good quality or not in terms of the facility value or difficulty level, discriminating power, and the effectiveness of distractor. The test was held in SMAN 1 Tarumajaya on December 2017.
The summative test consists of 35 multiple choice items. The respondents of this research are 63 students which are divided into 27% (17 students) of upper group and 27% (17 students) of lower group. In analyzing the difficulty level and discriminating power, the writer used the formula suggested by J.B Heaton to analyze the difficulty level and discriminating power.
The result of the data analysis showed that from 35 items, there have been 6 items which are categorized in the easy level, 26 items which are categorized in the medium level, and 3 items which are categorized in the difficulty level. In terms of discriminating power, it is discovered from 35 items, there have been 29 items can be accepted and 6 items must be revised. Based on the result of the difficulty level and discriminating power, it can be concluded that the English summative test has fulfilled the criteria of a good quality. The benefits of the study result can help teacher to find out if the test can be categorized as a good test in terms of difficulty level, the discriminating power of the test items and the effectiveness of distractor for making a good test of English Summative test for the first semester of tenth grade student at SMAN 1 Tarumajaya Bekasi. And that is useful for making good quality of English summative test item for the next Summative Test.
