This study was held at SMPN 184 Jakarta. The objective of the study is to find the empirical evidence of the most common types of errors and sources of errors in the descriptive text writing made by the eighth grade students of SMPN 184 Jakarta in the second semester of the 2016/2017 academic year. The samples of this study were 26 students at VIII.4.
The writer used descriptive analytical method. The writer found that the top three common errors were made by the students were article errors (16,1%), 71 punctuation errors (15.5%), 54 capital letter errors (11.8%). The other types of errors were: 42 nouns and pronouns errors (9.2%), 34 formation of word errors (7.4%), 34 prepositions errors (7.4%), 31 verbs errors (6.8%), 28 conjunctions errors (6.1%), 24 order of words errors (5.0%), 21 spelling errors (4.6%), 19 agreement of the verb with the subject errors (4.1%), 15 adverbs errors (3.3%), and 12 adjective (2.6%). Besides, the common errors for the sources of errors were: 250 intralingual errors (52%), and 232 interlingual errors (48%).
