The objective of the research is to find out wheather the English summative test fulfills the criteria of a good test related to the difficulty level or facility value, the discriminating power, and the effectiveness of distractor. Afterward, the good items might be accepted and bad item must be revised or rejected.
The poulation and sample of the research are the ninth class. It consists of four classes. The total students are 128 students. The minimum sample are 30%, so the sample are 30 × 128 : 100 = 38.4. It is rounded to be 40 students as samples because there are 4 classes. Thus, the samples were taken randomly to students for each class.
The research finding has shown that through the calculation of the difficulty level ( DL), the writer finds 15 item are easy items (37.5%), 24 as medium items (60%) and 1 as difficul item (2.5%) in the summative test. The data shows that most of the items are easy to do by students. In addition, through the calculation of discriminating power (DP), the writer finds 6 items are weak items (15%) which have to be revised, 34 items are good items (85%) to be accepted. The data shows that most of the items are good because they are succeed to discriminate some students in the upper group and lower group, so it can be concluded that summative test which has been administered to the second year students of SMPN 260 Pulau Harapan is good. Nevertheless, there are some weak items that need to be revised. The writer wishes that the revision of the weak items through items analysis can increase the quality of whole summative test items as well.
