The objective of this study is to find out whether the English summative test item for the eight grade students on SMPN 257 Jakarta have good quality or not in terms of the facility value or difficulty level, discriminating power, and the effectiveness of distractor. The test was held in SMPN 257 Jakarta on June 9th 2017.
The test of this study consists of 50 multiple choice items.The respondents of this research are 66 students and then the writer takes the samples are 27% deals with 18 students for upper group and 27% deals with 18 students for lower group. While 46% deals with 30 students are not analyzed as a middle group. In this matter the writer does not use the medium group because the item analysis only needs the upper group and lower group as a sample analysis. In analyzing the difficulty level and discriminating power, the writer used the formula suggested by J.B Heaton to analyze the dificulty level and discriminating power.
The result of the data analysis showed that from 50 items. There have been 12 items which are categorized in the easy level, 23 items which are categorized in the medium level, and 15 items which are categorized in the difficulty level. Based on the result of the difficulty level and discriminating power, it can be concluded that the test have fulfilled the criteria of a good quality. The benefits of the study result are can help teacher to find out if the test can be categorized as a good test in terms of difficulty level, the discriminating power of the test items and the effectiveness of distractor for make a good test of English Summative test for the second semester of Eighth Grade students at SMPN 257 Jakarta. And that is useful for making good quality of English test item for the next Summative Test.
