The Content Validity of the English Summative Test of the Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 259 East-Jakarta in the First Semester of the 2016-2017 Academic Year

The research was aimed to find empirical evidence whether or not the English summative test for the seventh grade students of SMPN 259 Jakarta in the first semester of the 2016/2017 Academic Year was in line with the English syllabus of the 2013 Curriculum content (revision). The object of the research was the test items of the English summative test. The method used in this research was descriptive comparative analysis in which the writer analyzed and compared the items of the English summative test with the learning materials and the indicators stated in the syllabus.
As the instrument, the writer used a checklist in a table arranged according to the learning materials and indicators that were changed into the question form. The descriptive analysis technique was used by the writer. The formula was P = x 100 %. The result was stated based on the criterion by Arikunto. If the result was ≤ 60% it meant the test did not have a good content validity.
After analyzing and comparing the content of the test to the syllabus, the writer concluded that the average percentage of learning indicators which was 38.97% and the average percentage of learning materials which was 63.48%. The result of the sum of between the averages of learning materials and learning indicators were 102.45% and the average of the conformity between the English Summative test and its materials and indicators stated in the syllabus was 51.22%. Based on the criterion by Arikunto the result was sufficient category. The writer also found 7 out of 50 items that were out of syllabus, and the percentage was 14%. In brief, the English summative test for the seventh grade students of SMPN 259 Jakarta in the first semester of the 2016/2017 did not have good content validity.
