The Relationship between Self-Efficacy and Students’ Speaking Skill of the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah 15 Jakarta in the 2016/2017 Academic Year

The objective of the research is to find the empirical evidence of whether or not there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and speaking skill of the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 15 Jakarta in the 2016/2017 academic year.
The writer used the quantitative survey method by using correlation technique. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 15 Jakarta, and the writer only took 1 class of natural science (10-1 class) consisting of 32 students for the sample of the research. The instruments used for this research were the questionnaire of self-efficacy and the test of speaking skill. The scores of the the two variables were calculated by using the formula of Pearson’s Product Moment.
The finding of the analysis and statistical calculation showed that robserved is 0.76 and rtable is 0.349 in the significant level of 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df = n- 2) is around 30. As a result, robserved is higher than rtable. Therefore, Ho is rejected and Hi is accepted. Meanwhile, by applying t-test, it was found that tobserved is 6.40 and ttable is 1.70. So, Ho is rejected and Hi is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and students’ speaking skill of the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 15 Jakarta in the 2016/2017 academic year.
