The objective of the study was to find out whether or not the English summative test for the ninth grade students of the first semester at SMPN 83 Jakarta could be categorized into a good test based on the difficulty level, the discriminating power, and the effectiveness of distracters.
The respondents of this research were 69 students of the ninth grade students at SMPN 83 Jakarta in the 2016/2017 academic year. The class was divided into two groups, 17 (50%) students who got the highest score in the English test for the upper group, 17 (50%) students who got the lowest score in English test for the lower group. The total testees chose the option from the lower group score was 216 and the testee from the lower group was 17. Total distractor was 3 % and less than 5% of examinees. It means that distractor is categorized into the ineffective (non-functioning) distractor.
Based on the analysis of the data in this research, the writer estimated that the English summative test, administrated in SMPN 83 West Jakarta was not into good because from 50 items, there were 34 acepted items, 5 rejected items, and 11 revised items. The ineffective distractor was taken from the 3 % and less than the 5% of examinees as non-functioning.
