This study examined the quality of the multiple-choice items that have been tested toward the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 27 Tangerang in the second semester of the 2015/2016 academic year. The objective of current study was to know the quality of the multiple-choice items of the English summative test for the second-grade students of SMA Negeri 27 Tangerang regarding the difficulty level and the discriminating power. The writer used the descriptive quantitative and the qualitative analysis as a method of the research. The quantitative analysis was a numerical method that is used to analyzed data of the difficulty level, and the discriminating power. Meanwhile, qualitative analysis was a nonnumerical method that is used primarily in describing the quality and the weakness of the test item. The respondent of the current study were 72 pupils. The writer chosen the top 25% for the upper group and top 25% for the lower group. The results of current study showed there were 9 items (30 %) included as acceptable items in the criteria of faculty of value, there were 5 items (16.6%) considered as difficult items, and there were 16 items (53.3%) considered as moderate items. Whereas for the discriminating of power, the writer found there were 2 items (6.6%) with the quality of very poor items (rejected), 11 items (36.6%) with the quality of too poor items (revision), and 17 items (56.6%) consist of 13 items (43%) considered as satisfactory, 3 items (10%) considered as good and the last was one excellent. In conclusion, the quality of the multiple-choice items of the English summative test for the second student at SMAN 27 Tangerang in the second semester does not fulfill the criteria of a good test.
