The objective of this study is to find the empirical evidenceof the
reliabilityof the English summative test for the 9th grade students of SMPN 83
Jakarta 2016-2017 Academic Year.The research is held in SMPN 83 Jakarta
located at Jl. Empang Bahagia, Kel. Jelambar, KecGrogol Petamburan, West
Jakarta and the summative test was administered on Tuesday 9th December
2016.The writer uses quantitative method in this research.The population of this
study is 205 students of the ninth grade. The sample of the research was taken
30% student of the ninth grade; they are 63 students from class IX A and IX B.
The writer uses split-half technique to estimating the reliability of the test
and calculates the correlation of odd numbers and even numbers scores in the
summative test by using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation.The result of the
analysis the writer gets 0.565 and 0,248. Becausethe
, it means that there is a significant correlation between odd
number group and even number group in the English summative test item for the
ninth grade students of SMPN 83 Jakarta 2016-2017 academic year.
From the statement above, it can be concluded that the English summative
test item at SMPN 83 Jakarta 2016-2017 academic year is reliable. This research
can give the important information for the teacher to understand how to make a
good test.
