The objective of this study is to find out the students typical errors and
sources of errors writing of the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Babelan Bekasi.
The writer uses a descriptive analysis method in this study. The writer
administered a guided task on descriptive writing.
To know errors and mistakes, the writer asked the students do the same
test on different day. So, the students wrote 3 paragraphs based on the questions
asked by the writer. Then, the writer analyses the writing errors done by the
students. The writer took one class which consists of 25 students as the sample.
This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Babelan Bekasi on the tenth grade
students. The study showed that the most typical error done by the students was in
capitalization with 21.54%, next verb tense with 14.52%, add a word with
12.59%, omit a word with 11.62%, word choice with 10.89%, singular-plural with
6.77%, spelling with 6.53%, punctuation with 5.32%, article with 3.14%, word
form with 2.17%, meaning not clear with 1.69%, run on sentence with 1.21%,
word order with 0.96%, incomplete sentence with 0.72%.
It indicates that most of students need more remedial teaching from the
teacher toward their errors in English writing. It can be done by the teacher. The
teacher must give explanation about how to use capitalization in the correct usage
in the learning process. Besides, the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Babelan
Bekasi still need more practice in order to develop their writings.
