The objective of the study was to find the empirical evidence of whether or
not the English summative test for the seventh grade students of SMPN 259 East
Jakarta in the second semester was good in terms of face validity and linguistic
aspects. The methodology in this study was descriptive quantitative. There was no
population involved in this study. The instrument was checklist tables. The
English summative test was administered on Tuesday, 30 May 2017.
The writer used checklist tables to analyze the face validity and linguistic
aspects. The result of analyzing was stated based on the criterion by Arikunto. If
the result was ≥ 60% it means a test has good validity, but if the result was ≤ 60%
it means a test did not has good validity.
The finding of the study showed that 52% of the test fulfilled the criteria
of good face validity and 48% of the test did not fulfill the criteria of good face
validity. For the linguistic aspects, 84% of the test fulfilled the criteria of good
linguistic aspects and 16% of the test did not fulfill the criteria of good linguistic
aspects. It indicated the English summative test for the seventh grade students of
SMPN 259 East Jakarta in the second semester was not good in terms of face
validity and it was good in terms of linguistic aspects.
