The objective of the study was to answer the question of the study, whether or not the English summative test items for the tenth grade students of MA Annajah Jakarta in the second semester of 2015/2016 academic year had a quality of a good test in term of the difficulty level, discriminating power, and the effectiveness of the distracters.
This research mainly applied a qualitative method of study based on a descriptive quantitative analysis of the students’ responses upon the test items. The quantitative analysis was done to count the index of the difficulty level and discriminating power. The results are used to qualitative analysis to describe the quality and weekness of the test items.
Based on the data analysis of the study, the tabulation of the facility value shows the composition of the test: 8 items in the test or (32%) were categorized as easy items, 12 items in the test or (48%) were categorized as medium items, and 5 items in the test or (20%) were categorized as difficult items. In the tabulation of the discriminating power, the composition of the test shows: 1 item in the test or (4%) was categorized as bad item and needed discarding, 8 items in the test or (32%) were categorized as poor items and needed revising, and 16 items in the test or (64%) were categorized as the satisfactory items (8 items), good (6 items) and excellent (2 items) that could be accepted. In the tabulation of the effectiveness of distracters, the composition of the test shows: there were 48 effective distracters in the test or (48%), and there were 52 ineffective distracters in the test or (52%).
Based on the findings of the study, the writer concluded that the English summative test for the tenth grade students of MA Annajah Jakarta in the second semester of the 2015/2016 academic year did not have good quality of test in terms of difficulty level, discriminating power and the effectiveness of distracters.
