The objective of this study is to know the quality of English summative
test items for the second semester of the eleventh grade at SMAN 75 Jakarta and
to identify the test items which are needed to be accepted, revised, and rejected.
The method of this study is used a descriptive quantitative and qualitative method.
Quantitative method is used to analyze the data of the difficulty level and
discriminating power. Meanwhile, the qualitative method isused to describe the
quality and the weakness of the test items.
The respondent of this study are 248 students which are defined in to seven
classes but the writer only took two classes as a sample which consist of 72
students based on the featured class as a purposive sampling. Then the writer,
ranked the students from the highest to the lowest score, and took 27% the highest
score as the upper group and 27% from the lowest score as the lower group. Each
group consists of 19 students.
The instrument that isused in this study is the summativetest, the answer
sheet, and the answer key. Based on the analysis of this study, it is concluded that
the English summative test items which is administrated at SMAN 75 Jakarta is
not good because from 40 items, there are 5 items or 12% that are rejected, there
are 10 items or 25% that must be revised, and there are 25 items or 63% that can
be accepted.
