This study was intended to answer the question if the content of the English summative test on the tenth grade of the second semester at SMAN 38 Jakarta is valid or not. The object of the study was the test items of the English summative test on the tenth grade of the second semester at SMAN 38 Jakarta in 2015/2016 academic year. The method used in this study was comparative descriptive method which compares the test items of the English summative test with the teaching materials and the learning objectives based on syllabus of 2013 Curriculum.
The instruments of the study were the checklist tables which were arranged based on the teaching materials and the learning objectives in syllabus of 2013 Curriculum. It was used to know how many percentages the test items in the English summative test used based on the syllabus of 2013 Curriculum. The study was focused on the four parts of the teaching materials and the learning objectives of reading skill. The test consisted of 40 test items of multiple choice. Listening, speaking and writing skills were not available in the English summative test. Therefore, the writer did not discuss those skills.
From the result of this comparative descriptive analysis, the writer found that the English summative test which was administered at SMAN 38 Jakarta was not in line with the requirements of the existing syllabus of 2013 Curriculum. It was proved by only 43.5% of the content of the English summative test conformed to the syllabus of 2013 Curriculum. Based on the result, it could be concluded that the content of the English summative test on the tenth grade of the second semester at SMAN 38 Jakarta was not valid.
