An Error Analysis on the Students’ Descriptive Writing at the Tenth Grade of SMK Prestsi Prima Jakarta at The Second Semester in 2015/2016 Academic Year

The objective of the research was to find out the descriptive writing error that the students mostly make in their descriptive writing. The research was held at the tenth grade of SMK Prestasi Prima Jakarta. In order to accomplish the objective of the research, 23 students in X BC 2 class was chosen as the sample. The instrument of the research was the form descriptive writing. The students were asked to make a descriptive writing. Then, the writer analyzed the errors that the students made in their writing according to the types of error. After, categorizing their errors, the writer tabulated them to see the percentage of the errors. Furthermore, the writer interpreted the data and drew the conclusion and suggestion.
From the calculation, the writer came to the conclusion that the most typical errors in the students‟ writing were errors in Omit a word (12.50%), error in Word choice (12.50%), error in Add a word (5.17%), error in Capitalization (8.18%), error in Spelling (9.05%), error in Singular-Plural (7.32%), error in Word form (6.03%), error in Article (9.05%), error in Incomplete sentence (0.43%), error in Word order (6.03%), error in Verb tense (8.18%), error in Meaning not clear (0.43%), error in Punctuation (9.48%), and error in Run on sentence with (5.60%)
The research shows that the most typical errors were made by students were Word choice and Omit a word with 29 or 12.50% errors. Then it was followed by error in Punctuation 22 or 9.48% and then error in Spelling and Article 21 or 9.05%. The other errors are under 9%. Besides, the common errors on the sources of error were in the intralingual transfer 104 (43.96%), interlingual transfer 56 (24.13%), context of learning 54 (24.56%), and communication strategies 12 (5.17%). After seeing the result of the study, it indicated that some students needed more practice in order to develop their writing.
