The objective of the research was to find out the empirical evidence on the effectiveness of using picture in teaching students descriptive writing for the eighth grade students of MTsN 15. The data were taken on Mei 04 up to Mei 22, 2017. The population of this research was 30 students for the eighth grade of MTsN 15 Jakarta Utara.
The writer used pre-experimental method in the students of MTsN 15 which the writer used only one class as the object of the research. The writer administered pre-test before the treatment to find out the students level of writing. After the treatment, the writer administered a post-test to see whether or not the teaching descriptive writing using picture was effective.
The data that the writer got from the research were analyzed by using t-test formula. From the computation of the data, it was found the (to) 21.07 from df (29) on degree of significance level was 1.70. Because to > tt it means the Ho was rejected and the Hi was accepted. Therefore, it could be concluded that there was effectiveness of using picture in teaching students descriptive writing for the eighth grade students of MTsN 15 North Jakarta in the 2016/2017 Academic Year. Based on the finding of study, it could be concluded that to increase descriptive writing by using picture was quite success and could run well in the class situation. Through picture, the students could feel more comfortable and enjoyable doing activities in the class. It gave students the opportunities to be active in developing writing.
