The objective of this study was to find the empirical evidence of the relationship between self confidence and speaking skill. The population in this study were dormitory-resident students. The writer chose the dormitory-resident students who have studied at Kampung Inggris Pare. There were 31 students who have studied at Kampung Inggris Pare. The writer took the data by using quantitative survey method. The instuments of this study were questionnaire and speaking test. To measure the correlation between self confidence and speaking skill, the writer used Pearson’s Product Moment. Based on the explanation, the correlation analysis, it was found that robserved = 0.97 and rtable = 0.35 in the level significance 5% of Pearson Product Moment corelation. It meant that robserved was higher than rtable (0.97 > 0.35). Therefore, there was very high relationship between self confidence (X variable) and speaking skill (Y variable). From the significant test, it was also found tobserved > ttable = 21.70 > 2.03, so the null hypotheses (HO) was rejected and the alternative hypotheses (Hi) was accepted. It could be concluded as well that there was a significant relationship between self confidence (X variable) and speaking skill (Y variable). Furthermore, the factor of self confidence influences the students’ speaking skill as 94% while 6% comes from other factors which influence the students’ speaking skill.
