The objective of this study is to find the empirical evidence of quality of English summative test items for the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Babakan Cikao Purwakarta in the first semester and to identify the test item which is needed to be accepted, revised, and rejected. There are 94 students who are distributed into 3 classes. The writer takes two classes which consist of 60 students as the sample of the research.
The research used quantitative and qualitative analysis method. Quantitative analysis is used to find the data of the difficulty level, the discriminating power, and the effectiveness of the distracters. While, qualitative analysis is used to describe the quality and the weakness of the items. The population of the research is the eight grade students of SMPN 2 Babakan Cikao Purwakarta and the writer took two classes that consist of 60 students for the object of the research.
Based on the result of the analysis,the English summative test which is administered at SMPN 2 Babakan Cikao Purwakarta is good. Because from 50 items, there are 39 items are accepted, 10 items are revised, and only 1 item is discarded. Moreover, the proportion of this item test is not fullfil criteria of a good test. The proportion of this item test is 6% easy: 74% medium: 20% difficult.
