The objective of the research is to find the empirical evidence of whether or not there is a significant relationship between students’ grammar mastery and their writing skill of the tenth grade students of MA Ummul Quro Al-Islami Bogor in the 2016/2017 academic year.
The research used survey method with correlation technique. The population of the research is the tenth grade students of MA Ummul Quro Al-Islami Bogor and the writer took one class that consist of 30 students for the object of the research. The writer chooses that class by using random sampling technique. The writer took the data by giving two tests. The instrument of the research was grammar test and descriptive writing test. The writer used Pearson’s Product Moment to know the relationship of two variables in this research. The first variable (independent) is the grammar mastery and the second variable (dependent) is descriptive writing skill.
According to the result of the analysis and statistical calculation, it is found that ro is 0.81 and rt is 0.361 with the degree of freedom (df = n-2) is 28 and significance 5%. Because ro is higher than rt it means that Ho is rejected and Hi is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between students’ grammar mastery and their writing skill at the tenth grade students of MA Ummul Quro Al-Islami Bogor in the 2016/2017 academic year.
So it can be concluded that the students’ grammar mastery takes the importance and positively influencing to the students’ descriptive writing skill of the tenth grade students of MA Ummul Quro Al-Islami Bogor.
