he objective of the study was to find the empirical evidence of whether or not the ENGLISH textbook written by Rudi Hartono, SS. M.Pd published by PT Arya Duta for the tenth grade of Senior High School in line with Communicative Reading Competences. The method of the study was the descriptive comparative analysis. The
instrument of the study was checklist in a table. Containing a number of 8 reading sub skills based on the Communicative Reading Competences. The limitation of the study the writer used eight reading sub skills as directive to analyze. After analyzing the reading exercises of the textbook, the writer found that the reading sub skills of the
textbook were in line with Communicative Reading Competences. The result showed the sub skills scanning was 12%, the sub skill skimming was 10%, the sub skill distinguish the main idea from supporting details was 2%, the sub skill understanding explicitly stated was 46%, the sub skill understanding information when not explicitly was 18%, the sub skill understanding conceptual meaning was 1%, basic reference
skills was 1%, the sub skill recognizing indicators in discourse was 10%. According to Arikunto’s classification, 100% can be categorized as a good criteria. It can be interpreted that the reading exercises of ENGLISH textbook for the tenth grade of Senior High School has been in conformity with Communicative Reading Competences.
