The purpose of the research is to get the empirical data of whether or not there is relationship between the motivation and the ability to write descriptive text of the tenth grade students of SMKN 6 South Jakarta in the 2015/2016 academic year. The research was started on June, 2nd and finished on June, 13th 2016. The subject of the research was X Accounting 1 and the participants consisted of 35 students. The method used quantitative data by doing survey and giving writing test. The instruments are questionnaire for getting the data of the motivation and descriptive writing test for measuring the ability to write descriptive text. The findings of the research showed that the calculation of correlation analysis is (ro) is 0.74 and (rt) is 0.349 in the level significance P = 0.05 with n = 33, so Ho is rejected and Hi is accepted. It concludes that there is a relationship between the motivation and the ability to write descriptive text. Then, the contribution of two variables is 54.76%. For significant analysis, the result of to = 6.32 and tt = 1.70, in the level significance t0,95 with df = 33. Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means that there is a significant relationship between the motivation and the ability to write descriptive text.
