An Error Analysis on Students' Recount Writing for the Second Semester of the Tenth Grade Student at SMA Bakti Idhatain the 2014/2015 Academic Year

The objective of the research is to find out the grammatical error that the students mostly made in their recount writings. The research was held at the tenth grade students of SMA Bakti Idhata Jakarta in the 2014/2015 academic year. In order to accomplish the objective of the research, 25 students in X MIA 1 class were choose as the sample of the research.
The instrument of the research is the form of recount writing. The students were asked to make a recount writing. Then, the writer analyzed the errors that the students made in their writing according to the types of error. After categorizing their errors, the writer tabulated them to see the percentage of the errors. Furthermore, the writer interpreted the data and drew the conclusion and suggestion.
The research shows that the most typical errors are made by the students are verb tense 161 or 22% errors, add a word 95 or 13% errors, word choice 78 or 10.6% errors, punctuation 77 or 10.5% errors, capitalization 73 or 10% errors, omit a word 69 or 9.4% errors, word order 52 or 7.1% errors, spelling 39 or 5.3% errors, word form 28 or 3.8% errors, single-plural 21 or 2.9% errors, incomplete sentence 19 or 2.6% errors, meaning not clear 8 or 1.1% errors, run-on sentence 8 or 1.1% errors, and article 5 or 0.7% errors.
Moreover, the sources of errors were as follows; intralingual transfer 289 or 39.4% errors, interlingual transfer 261 or 35.6% errors, context of learning 137 or 18.7% errors, and communication strategies 46 or 6.3% errors. The intralingual transfer was the most typical sources of errors which influence the error of verb tense to happen.
