The objective of the study is to find out the most typical and sources of errors made by the first grade students of Ma Al-Muddatsiriyah Jakarta in their descriptive writing. The population of this study were the first grade students around 27 students as the sample. The method is used in this study is the descriptive analytical method. The writer administered the guided task on descriptive writing. Moreover, to differentiate both error and mistake, the writer assigned the students to do the same task on the different day. The students wrote paragraphs based on the instruction given by the writer. After getting the data, the writer analyzed the errors based on the grammatical aspects.
The study showed that the most typical errors done by the first grade students have been analyzed by Azar‟s dealt with the additional word around 22.5%, capitalization around 15.4%, and singular-plural around 14.2%. Based on the most typical errors above, the writer found that the most frequent sources of errors which have been analyzed by Brown are closely related to the interlingual transfer around 37.3%, intralingual transfer around 37%, communication strategies around 16.9% and context of learning around 9.15%.
The benefits of this study is to inform the teacher and to know about common errors made by the students. By reading the result of this study, the teacher can teach the descriptive writing more innovative to reduce the errors in descriptive writing.
