The objective of the study is to find the empirical evidence of the types and sources of errors in the tenth grade students of SMAN 8 Bekasi made in their descriptive writing in the 2015/2016 academic year.
The writer used analytic descriptive method in this study. The writer gave the first writing assignment on May 16th 2016 and gave the student’s writing back on May 18th 2016.
The result of the research shows that the highest type of errors that is Capitalization (32.8 %), Verb Tense (11.4 %), Singular-Plural (10.4 %), Word Choice (9.7 %), Punctuation (8.4 %), Spelling (5.8 %), Article (4.9 %), Add a word (4.9 %), Word Order (3.9 %), Run-on Sentence (2.6 %), Omit Word or (2.3 %), Meaning not Clear (2.3 %), Word Form (0.3 %), and Incomplete Sentence(0.3 %). It shows that the teacher should give more explanation and practice in making a writing task, so that the students do not make the same mistake. Moreover, the highest sources of errors made by students are: Context of Learning (47.4%), Intralingual Transfer (30.2%), Interlingual Transfer (20.1%), Communication Strategies (2.3%).
