This research was conducted at the tenth grade students of SMKN 1
Cileles in the 2016/2017 academic year. The objective of this study was to find
out the readability level of reading texts in English textbook by using Cloze Test
at the Tenth Grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Cileles. The population of this
research was 18 breading texts and 44 students who are distributed into 2 classes,
but the writer only text 8 reading texts and class X-10 consisting of 23 students as
the sample. In this study the writer used descriptive analysis. The procedures were
conducted by distributing the Cloze Test to the students, collecting, correcting,
calculating, analyzing, interpreting data, and the last was concluding the result of
the study.
The result of the research showed that the problem of this research is to
observe the readability level of reading texts. To get the data about this, the writer
distributed the cloze tests of the eight reading texts. After analyzing and
interpreting the data of the eight reading texts in the English textbook through
cloze tests, the result shows that the percentage of appropriate is 16.30%, and the
inappropriate is 83.70% The readability of textbook entitled English, published
by PT Bumi aksara and compiled by Desmal, Dardjis, Sophian Fanany and
Aisyah Anwar is inappropriate, and The texts are predicted too difficult for the
students’.
Therefore, the writer takes a conclusion that this textbook is
inappropriate to be used by the students at the tenth grade students of SMKN 1
Cileles, Kabupaten Lebak, Banten.
