The objective of the study was to find empirical evidence on the reading tasks in Scaffolding for the Eighth Grade Students are in line with communicative reading competences or not. The method of the study was a descriptive comparative analysis method in doing this study. In this case, the writer compare the content of the reading tasks in the English textbook entitled Scaffolding with syllabus and communicative reading competencies. The instrument uses in doing this study are checklists containing the sub skills presented by Munby’s communicative reading sub skills. Each checklist is used for recording one chapter. The instrument is attached in appendix table 2.1.
Based on the findings discussed in the previous chapter, the results of this study shows that there have been 10 sub-skills in the communicative reading competence that the writer used in analyzing the reading tasks in a book entitled Scaffolding. Having analyzed the 10 reading tasks, the writer found 6 from 10 reading sub-skills or proportionally it was 60%.
From the findings of the study, the writer concludes that the reading tasks in Scaffolding textbook for the Eighth Grade of Junior High School are in line with communicative reading competences.
