This study is aimed to find out whether or not there is significant
relationship between students’ English vocabulary mastery and students’ writing
descriptive skill on the eighth grade students of SMPN 190 Jakarta in 2015/2016
Academic Years.The method of this research is survey involving correlation analysis.
It is a kind of quantitative field research.The population of this research consists of
192 a students and the sample of this research are 32 students whom are selected
randomly. The scores of the students are calculated by using Person’s Product
Moment Correlation.The calculation of Person’s Product Moment shows that the
rocorrelation 0.98 with df=3 in 0.05 significant standard get rt 0.349. In other word
robserved is higher then rtable (ro >rt). As the consequence, work hypothesis is accepted
and null hypothesis is rejected. Then on regression analysis, there is contribution
of vocabulary mastery to descriptive writing that can be seen statistically Ŷ= a +
b Xi= Ŷ = 6.9 + 0.87Xi. It can be summarized that there is relationship between
students’ English vocabulary mastery and students’descriptive writing skill of the
eighth grade at SMPN 190 Jakarta in 2015/2016 academic year. In other words,
there is a significant relationship between students’ English vocabulary mastery
and students’ descriptive writing skill of the eighth grade at SMPN 190 Jakarta in
2015/2016 academic year.
