This objective of this study is to find the empirical evidence of relationship or not between students’ mastery of simple past tense and their ability in writing narrative text. This research was held on SMA Islam Al Falah at the first semester on the eleventh grade 2014/2015 academic year. The writer got the data by using the instruments and did the research by using a survey method with correlation technique. The population of the research is the eleventh grade students of SMA Islam Al Falah West Jakarta and the writer took one class including 35 students for the object of the research. The writer took the data by giving two test. The first instrument of the research was simple past tense test, and writing narrative test. The writer used Pearson Product Moment to know the relationship of two variables in this research. There are simple past tense ad writing narrative text. The normality test of X variable X2observed = 1.82 < X2table = 7.81 and Y variable X2observed = 2.37 < X2table = 7.81, it can be concluded that both of the data normally distributed. The result of correlation analysis are robserved = 0.96 is higher than rtable = 0.334, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between students’ mastery of simple past tense and writing narrative text. The data of significant analysis are tobserved = 19.67 is higher than ttable = 1.70. It can be inferred that there is a significant between students’ mastery of simple past tense and writing narrative text.
