The aim of this research was to find out whether or not the items of English summative test for the tenth grade students of SMKN South Jakarta in the second semester academic year consisted of good items related to the difficulty level, discriminating power, and the effectiveness of distracter. So, it can be categorized which item should be accepted, revised and discarded. If the item was accepted, it could be used in the future test. If it was revised, it should be revised into a good one, so the item can be used in the future test. If it was discarded, it should be thrown away and changed by a new item.
The method that was used in this research was descriptive quantitative method. It means to describe the item which have been analyzed by using difficulty level and discriminating power aspects. The data have been taken from students’ answer sheet of English summative test. The summative test encoded 21 and 22. The respondent of the research were 60 students of code 21.
The analysis of the difficulty level showed that easy items are 25 (52%), medium items are 19 (38%) and difficult items are 6 (12.5%). The discriminating power shows that 19 items are very good, 9 of them are good, 12 of them are marginal, 10 of them are revised and no discarded items. It means that 40 items can be used in future testing while the other 10 items should be revised. The analysis of the distracters showed there are 46 (31%) distracters that are categorized as effective distracter, 20 (13%) distracters that are categorized as less effective distracter, and 80 (55%) distracter that are categorized as ineffective distracters.
