The objective of the study is to find empirical evidence of the errors that students made in descriptive writing of the tenth grade students of SMAN 105 Jakarta in the 2014/2015 academic year.
The method is descriptive analytical method. The writer administers a guided descriptive test writing. Moreover, to distinguish from errors and mistakes, the writer asked the students to revise and rewrite their writing after thewriter marked the wrong/incorreck words/word choice/sentences in the writing.
The study shows that the most typical errors done by the students is in add a word with 22.40%, next omit a word with 18.04%, capitalization with 8.92%, run – on sentence with 8.50%, singular – plural with 8.50%, word choice with 8.50%, word form with 6.43%, incomplete sentence with 4.97%, spelling with 4.77%, and verb tense with 4.56%. The smallest typical errors done by the students is meaning not clear with 1.45%, article with 1.45%, word order with 1.24%, and punctuation with 0.20%. In accordance to the above typical errors, the writer found out that the most sources which cause students making the errors are intralingual transfer and interlingual transfer.
