Jakarta : The University of Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA, 2015. The objective the research is to find the empirical evidence of whether or not the English summative test for the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 52 Jakarta in the second semester of the 2014/2015 has fulfilled the criteria of a good test or not in terms of the item difficulty and the item discrimination. The research is conducted at SMK Negeri 52 Jakarta, on June 2nd, 2015. The test of this research consists of 50 multiple choice items. The population of the research is eight classes with 240 total students. The writer takes two classes that consist of 58 students that are X TGB.A and X TGB.B. The sample is taken purposively because the English teacher give permission and an opportunity to the writer in that class. In analyzing the item difficulty level and item discrimination index, the writer used the formula suggested by Reynolds et al. After analyzing the item difficulty level, there have been 37 items categorized easy, and 7 items categorized medium level and 6 items categorized difficult. After calculating the item discrimination index from 50 multiple choice items, there have been 24 accepted items, 23 items should be revised, and 3 items was discarded. Based on the result of the item difficulty level and the item discrimination index, it can be concluded that the English summative test for the tenth grade students of SMK N 52 Jakarta in the second semester of the 2014/2015 academic year is categorized as bad test.
