The objectives of this research are to know the quality of the English Summative test for the ninth grade students at SMPN 237 Jakarta based on the quality of the items and to identify the test items which are to be accepted, revised and rejected.
The methods used in this research are quantitative and qualitative analysis method. Quantitative analysis is used to find the data of the difficulty level and discriminating power scores. Meanwhile, qualitative analysis is used to describe the quality and the weakness of the items.
The sample of the research is the ninth grade students of SMPN 237 Jakarta that consist of 64 students which are divided into two classes. Then the writer ranked the students from the highest to the lowest score, and took 25% from the highest score as the upper group and 25% from the lowest score as the lower group. Each group consists of 17 respondents.
Based on the analysis of this research, the English Summative test which was administered at SMPN 237 Jakarta is not good because from 50 items, there are 32 items can be accepted, 1 items that must be rejected, and 17 items that must be revised.
