The objective of this research is to find the empirical evidence of the
effectiveness of pictures to improve students’ vocabulary for the fifth grade students
of SDN Karawaci Baru 2 Tangerang in improving students’ vocabulary. The writer
used a pre-experimental method. The population of this research was all the fifth
grade students of SDN Karawaci Baru 2 Tangerang. The numbers of the students are
42 students, who are distributed into 5A and 5B, each of which consists of 21. The
samples were taken one class of the fifth grade students. The writer took 21 students
for the sample of the pre-experiment class. The data that the writer got from the
research were using the t-test formula to know the technique
The finding of this research shows that there is a significant improvement of
the students’ vocabulary through pictures in teaching vocabulary. The result of the
tobserved is 5.58 and ttable is 1.72. Because tobserved > ttable , it means Ho is rejected and
Hi is accepted. It means that teaching vocabulary through pictures is effective in
improving students’ vocabulary for the fifth grade students of SDN Karawaci Baru 2
Tangerang.
