An Item Analysis of the English Summative Test at the Tenth Grade Students of the First Semester on SMKN 41 JAKARTA in the 2015/2016 Academic Year.

SMKN 41 JAKARTA in the 2015/2016 Academic Year.The Study Programme of

The aim of this research was to find out whether or not the items of
English summative test at the tenth grade students of the first semester on SMKN
41 JAKARTA in the 2015/2016 Academic Year consisted of good items related to
the difficulty level and discriminating power, so it can be categorized which item
should be maintained, revised and discarded. If the item was maintained, it could
be used in the future test. If it was revised, it should be revised into a good one, so
the item can be used in the future test. If it was discarded, it should be thrown
away and changed by a new item.
The method that was used in this research was descriptive quantitative
method. It means to describe the items which have been analyzed by using
difficulty level and discriminating index aspects. The data have been taken from
the students answer sheets of English summative test. The respondent of the
research were 52 students.The analysis of the difficult level showed, there were 12
items (26%) categorized as easy items, 31 items (66%) which were categorized as
medium items, and 4 items (8%) which were categorized as difficult items. The
analysis of the discriminating power showed that there were 4 items (9%) that
needed to be discarded, 32 items (68%) were maintained, and 11 items (23%) that
needed to be revised. They had both low difficulty level and discriminating
power. Based on the analysis of the difficulty level and discriminating power, it
can be concluded that the test items belong to good quality items. So, it means
that the items can be used in the future test.
From the findings of the research, the writer concludes that the English
summative test of the tenth grade student of SMKN 41 Jakarta in the first
semester of the 2015/2016 academic year has good quality of test in terms of the
facility value and the discrimination index.
