The objective of the research is to know the effectiveness of using Text-to-
Speech in teaching pronunciation focusing on centring diphthongs at seventh grade
student of SMP N 249 West Jakarta. The writer used the experimental method. The
writer taught the two different classes by using two different teaching techniques.
The population of this reserach are 7A and 7E of SMP N 249 West Jakarta.
The writer assumes that the ability of student are quite the same. So the writer takes
the sample by using random sampling. As a result of the random sampling
technique, the writer got 7B as a control class which is given without treatment
using Text-to-Speech. 7C as an experiment class which is given treatment using
Text-to-Speech. The writer administered the pre-test of both classes before the
treatment. The writer did the treatment during six meetings. After the treatment, the
writer administered a post-test of both classes to see whether or not the teaching
pronunciation using Text-to-Speech is Effective.
This paper is using an experimental method in quantitative form by
collecting data and test. The result of Hypotheses Testing analysis shows that the
data of experiment class and control class are normally distributed. Furthermore,
the result of t-test tobserved 2,30 > ttable 1,67, it means that Ho is rejected and Hi is
accepted. In Short, it can be concluded that there is an effectiveness of Teaching
Pronunciation Using Text-to-Speech. Students can hear through the native
speakers‟ sounds and imitiate it in pronunciation class. it can make students feel
more comfortable and also enjoying learn English in the Classroom.
