The objective of this study is to find the empirical evidence of the most typical of
errors, and the sources of errors which were made by the tenth grade students of SMKN 22
Jakarta.
The method employed in this research was a descriptive writing. The writer asked the
students to write 3 paragraphs based on the topic which the writer had determined, marked
the writing and returned to the students and asked them to revised. After that the writer
identified and classified the errors based on the types of errors.
The research showed that the most typical errors done by the students were in
capitalization with 89 or 21,54%, verb tense with 60 or 14.52%, add a word with 52 or
12.59%, omit a word with 48 or 11.62%, word choice with 45 or 10.89%, singular-plural
with 28 or 6.77%, spelling with 27 or 6.53%, punctuation with 22 or 5.32%, article with 13 or
3.14%, word form with 9 or 2.17%, meaning not clear with 7 or 1.69%, run on sentence with
5 or 1.21%, word order with 4 or 0.96%, incomplete sentence with 3 or 0.72%.
