The objective of this study is to get the emphirical evidence of the effectiveness of practicing Role-play in the teaching of speaking skill to the second semester students of the English Department of the University of Muhammadiyah PROF. DR. HAMKA Jakarta in the 2014/2015 Academic Year.
The population of this study was all the second semester classes of Muhammadiyah PROF. DR. HAMKA Jakarta. There were 5 classes which consisted of 150 students. The writer used purposive random sampling classto get one class as the sample. It was A class which consisted of 28 students. The writer used pre-experimental design. The data were collected through speaking test and analyzed by employing t-test formula.
The finding of the research showed that Practicing Role Play was significantly effective in the teaching of speaking skill for the second semester students in the A class of theUniversity of Muhammadiyah PROF. DR. HAMKA Jakarta in the 2014/2015 Academic Year. The calculation of the data showed that to = 16,48 and tt = 1.70. Because the tois higher than tt (to>tt), the null hypothesis was rejected. As the result, it proves that the practicing role playwas effective in the teaching of speaking skill to the second semester students in the A class University of Muhammadiyah PROF. DR. HAMKA Jakarta in the 2014/2015 Academic Year.
