The purpose of the study is to find the empirical evidence of whether or
not the English summative test items for the eighth grade students of MTs Daarul
Ahsan Dangdeur Jayanti Tangerang in the second semester of the 2013/2014
academic year have good quality in term of difficulty level, discriminating power
and the effectiveness of the distracter.
The respondent of this research was two classes of the Eighth Grade
Student on MTs Daarul - Ahsan Dangdeur Jayanti Tangerangin 2013/2014
Academic Year consisting 36 of students in each class. The total numbers of the
students was 72 students, the respondent was divided into three groups, those
were upper, middle and lower groups, through analyzing the research data above,
the writer concluded the difficulty level, the discriminating power, and the
effectiveness of the distracter of the summative test. The writer adopted the
percentage to divide the groups from Purwanto, 25% for upper group, 50% for
middle group, and 25% for lower group. The upper group consists of 18 students
who must be contrasted to the 18 students from lower group. Meanwhile, the
middle group is not used to analyze.
Based on the analysis of the data in this study, the writer concludes that
the English summative test which was administered in MTs Daarul Ahsan Jayanti
Tangerang are good because from 50 items, there are only 2 items which are
rejected, 7 items are revised and 41 items are accepted. Hence, most of the test
items are still usable in the next test.
