This research discussed the effectiveness of using pictures in teaching recount text. The background of the study was the students often faced difficulties in writing recount text; thus, the writer wanted to find out whether or not pictures media would bring more progress in writing. The study was aimed at responding the question: Is the pictures media effective in teaching recount text to the Eighth Grade Students of MTsN Model Cigugur in the 2015-2016 Academic Year.The method of the research was an experimental method with a pre-experimental design. The experiment had been done only in one class; it was VIII-1 class. The instrument used to collect the data was writing test or essay test. The assessment of the test result was focused on the five elements of writing (format, punctuation and mechanics, content, organization, grammar and sentence structure). The technique to analyze the data was t-test formula. It was used to determine whether there is or there is not effectiveness if using pictures media to improve students‟ recount text.The analysis on the empirical data showed the result of the average, pre-test was 60.23 and 76.4 for the post-test. Based on the calculation result of t-test was obtained the t-observed was 13.04 while the t-table was 1.70. Since the t-observed was higher than t-table, the null-hypothesis was rejected and the research hypotheses was accepted. It means that there is effectiveness if using pictures media in teaching recount text.
