The objective of this research was to find empirical evidence of the types
and causes / sources of errors which the eleventh grade students of SMKN 10
Jakarta Timur made in their descriptive text writing.
The method of this research was analytic descriptive. The populations of
the research were the SMKN 10 Jakarta XI grade students who were distributed
into seven classes consisting of 30-40 students in each. The sample of this
research was all students of XI 2 Accounting that consists of 30 students. The
writer used purposive sampling technique to get representative data. The writer
asked the students to write one of the following topics: “My Best Friends/My
Favorite Teachers/My Favorite Places.”
Based on the research, the writer got some the most typical errors that the
students did in their writings. The research shows that the typical errors which
the students made in their writing: the highest place was capitalization with 60
errors (14,67%) and the lowest place was run-on sentence 3 errors (0,73%).
According to typical errors, the writer found the source of the errors. The highest
place was interlingual transfer with 172 errors (42,05%) and the lowest place
was communication strategies with 49 errors (11,98%).
