The purpose of the research is to find out the factual data about the
English summative test for the ninth grade students of SMPN 126 East Jakarta in
the second semester of the 2014/2015 academic year whether it has the quality of
good test or not in terms of difficulty level and discriminating power. In
accordance with the explanation above, the writer is necessary to make an
analyzing of the English summative test. The respondent of the research were 68
students which the writer took out 25% (17 students) who get highest scores for
the upper group, and 25% (17 students) who got lowest scores for the lower
group. Based on the data analysis of the research, the tabulation of facility
valueshows the composition of test: 26 items in the test or (52%) are classified as
easy items, 16 items in the test or (32%) are classified as the medium items, and
only 8 items in the test or (16%) are classified as the difficult items. In the
tabulation of discriminating power, the composition of the test shows: 9 items in
the test or (18%) are classified as the bad items and need to be discarded, 5 items
in the test or (10%) are classified as the poor items and need to be revised, and 24
items in the test or (48%) are classified as the satisfactory and good (12 items)
in the test or (24%) that can be maintained. From the findings of the research, the
writer concludes that the Englishsummative test for the ninth grade students of
SMPN 126 East Jakarta in the second semester of the 2014/2015 academic year
has unqualified quality of test in term of facility value and has good quality of test
in terms of the discriminating power.
