The aims of the research is to know whether or not it is effective to use semantic mapping as pre reading activity to increase the students’ reading comprehension at tenth grade students of SMA YPPD Depok in 2013/2014 academic year. The writer used pre experimental research involving 30 students as the sample. The writer collected the data from the research by using t-test formula.
The analysis on the empirical data has given the results that to was 30 while the ttwas 1.63; therefore, it rejected the null-hypothesis. The results of the research shows that it is effective to use semantic mapping as pre reading activity to increase reading comprehension at the tenth grade students of SMA YPPD Depok in 2013/2014 academic year.
The research findings are expected to be useful for both teachers and students to improve their teaching program or to solve students’ reading comprehension problem by using semantic mapping as pre reading activity. In addition, the researchers who are interested in doing the same research can take advantage of this study since this study can be a reference for them.
