The objective of this research is to find out the relationship between past
tense mastery and narrative writing at the tenth grade students of SMA Uswatun
Hasanah East Jakarta in the 2014/2015 academic year. The writer took one class
which consists of 30 students as the sample of the research.
The writer took the data by using test instruments of this research used are
past tense mastery test and narrative writing test. In analyzing the data, the writer
used a Pearson’s Product Moment Analysis to know the relationship of two
variables in this research, past tense mastery and narrative writing.
The result of the research shows that students’ mastery in past tense got
average score 68.66 and the average score of narrative writing 68.2. The result of
Pearson’s product moment showed rh = 0.983 is bigger than rt = 0.349 and th=
8.524 is bigger than tt = 1.70. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and
Hypothesis (Hi) is accepted. The regression equation shows ̂= 20.49 + 0.69 Xi.
Therefore, it can be concluded that there is significant relationship
between past tense mastery and narrative writing at the tenth grade students of
SMA Uswatun Hasanah East Jakarta in the 2014/2015 academic year.
