The objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using drama in speaking ability. Drama is one of very effective instructional methods of English for the teachers in the teaching-learning process, so it may encourage the students for speaking.
The writer did the research to the first year students of SMAN 5 Tangerang Selatan that involved in the process of teaching speaking taught by using drama. The population of the first year students is 450 pupils from six classes, and writer took 39 students from one class as a sample of the research. The writer uses experimental method in his study. He wants to know the effectiveness of teaching speaking skill before and after being treated with drama.
The writer confirmed result of student‘s speaking test. In this research, the result of Ttable on significant 5 % = 2,02 and 1 % = 2,71. It indicates that to > tt (2,02 < 9,31 > 2,71 ), therefore the zero hypothesis (Ho) is reject and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It indicates that there is significant influence of drama on student‘s speaking achievement. The writer concluded that teaching speaking through drama had affected student‘s speaking achievement and it is effective to be used in teaching speaking skills to.
