The first step to showing a transmission-operator reciprocity property is to identify the symmetry of the socalled displacement-to-traction operators. The latter are analogous to Dirichlet-to-Neumann operators and they may also be …
The properties of the overburden transmission response in seismic depth imaging are of interest for the analysis of reflectivity illumination or blurring. An elastic transmission-operator reciprocity is derived here by a direct method exploiting a symmetry of the elastic impedance operator at the input and output levels. This impedance-operator symmetry is obtained in a companion paper by assum…
Computationally efficient 3-D frequency-domain full waveform inversion (FWI) is applied to ocean-bottom cable data from the Valhall oil field in the visco-acoustic vertical transverse isotropic (VTI) approximation. Frequency-domain seismic modelling is performed with a parallel sparse direct solver on a limited number of computer nodes. A multiscale imaging is performed by successive inversions…

Latitudinal changes in the species richness of planktonic diatoms in Southwestern Atlantic and Antarctic waters (29˚–76˚S) were analyzed from local to regional scale in three spring and one summer seasons. A total of 220 diatom species (16–87 per station) were recorded. Despite the noticeable interannual variability, species richness showed a maximum in the northern sector of the …
We estimate fluid sources around a subducted seamount along the northern Hikurangi subduction margin of New Zealand, using thermomechanical numerical modelling informed by wedge structure and porosities from multichannel seismic data. Calculated fluid sources are input into an independent fluid-flow model to explore the key controls on overpressure generation to depths of 12 km. In the thermome…
We study quasi-isometries of the homogeneous manifold with negative curvature associated with a non-diagonalizable derivation of the Heisenberg algebra. We show that all quasi-isometries are almost isometries. We prove this by finding all the quasi-symmetric maps on the ideal boundary.
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) 7, a member of FGF family, is initially found to be secreted from mesenchymal cells to repair epithelial tissues. However, its functions in the nervous system are largely unknown. The present study showed that FGF7 was a neuromodulator localized in the large dense-core vesicles (LDCVs) in nociceptive neurons. FGF7 was mainly expressed in small-diameter neurons o…
Early museum pioneers Émile Gavet and his American contemporaries like Alva Vanderbilt, Isabella Gardner, and George Barnard were not interested in re-creating specific periods with academic rigour. Gardner and Barnard bought objects they liked, arranged them sympathetically, and created atmospheric and inviting total environments. They perhaps realized that historical precision was impossible…
RNA editing is a process of targeted alterations of nucleotides in all types of RNA molecules (e.g., rRNA, tRNA, mRNA, and miRNA). As a result, the transcriptional output differs from its genomic DNA template. RNA editing can be defined both by biochemical mechanisms and by enzymes that perform these reactions. There are high levels of RNA editing detected in the mammalian nervous system, sugg…
