Cari koleksi dengan cepat sesuai kebutuhan Anda.A number of case studies and legal briefs describe very troubling incidents faced by secondary school students because of their minority religious group affiliation. The purpose of the study described in this article was to understand the lived experiences of minority religious youths who attend public schools in an area of the United States where the majority of students are affiliated with on…
Students’ perceptions of school danger have been associated with several negative academic, behavioral, and developmental outcomes. However, little research has focused on which contextual factors influence rural youths’ perceptions of school danger. Through hierarchical regression analyses, the study presented in this article explored the relative importance of parent, peer, school experie…
For s >= 4, the 3-uniform tight cycle C3 s has vertex set corresponding to s distinct points on a circle and edge set given by the s cyclic intervals of three consecutive points. For fixed s >= 4 and s ≡ 0 (mod 3), we prove that there are positive constants a and b with 2at < r(C3 s,K3 t ) < 2bt2 log t. The lower bound is obtained via a probabilistic construction. The upper bound for s …
Ecological forecasts are increasingly seen as central to integrated management. However, to use such predictions, decision-makers require some understanding of how likely the forecasts are—or at least how likely one is over another. This cannot be achieved without considering model assumptions and their associated uncertainties. To illustrate, we first reviewed the theoretical aspects of mode…
We consider a large family F of torus bundles over the circle, and we use recent work of Li–Mak to construct, on each Y ∈ F, a Stein fillable contact structure ξY . We prove that (i) each Stein filling of (Y, ξY ) has vanishing first Chern class and first Betti number, (ii) if Y ∈ F is elliptic, then all Stein fillings of (Y, ξY ) are pairwise diffeomorphic and (iii…
We prove that every del Pezzo surface of degree 2 over a finite field is unirational, building on the work of Manin and an extension by Salgado, Testa, and V´arilly-Alvarado, who had proved this for all but three surfaces. Over general fields of characteristic not equal to 2, we state sufficient conditions for a del Pezzo surface of degree 2 to be unirational.
For any Calder´on–Zygmund operator T, any weight w, and α > 1, the operator T is bounded as a map from L1(ML log log L(log log log L)αw) into weak-L1(w). The interest in questions of this type goes back to the beginnings of the weighted theory, with prior results, due to Coifman–Fefferman, P´erez, and Hyt¨onen–P´erez, on the L(log L) scale. Also, for square functions Sf,and…
Hamilton’s theory of kin selection is the best-known framework for understanding the evolution of social behavior but has long been a source of controversy in evolutionary biology. A recent critique of the theory by Nowak, Tarnita, and Wilson sparked a new round of debate, which shows no signs of abating. In this overview, we highlight a number of conceptual issues that lie at the heart of th…
We prove that a bijective linear transformation between von Neumann factors that commute with a λ-Aluthge transform is necessarily a non-zero scalar multiple of an algebra *-isomorphism in the case of algebras that are not of type I2. As for type I2 factors, that is, in the particular case of the algebra of 2 by 2 complex matrices, we also present a complete description of those transforma…
